ICDAR'93

ICDAR (International Conference on Document Analysis and Recognition)

Formerly the achievements on the topics related to document analysis and recognition were submitted to ICPR.
By increase of papers in this fields, however, it became difficult for ICPR to accept many good quality papers.

From the situation a conference dedicated to document analysis and recognition (ICDAR) was planned.

The Sequence of ICDAR's has been and will be as follows.

ICDAR'91 (First) Saint Malo, France (1991)
ICDAR'93 (Second) Tsukuba, Japan (1993)
ICDAR'95 (Third) Montreal, Canada (1995)
ICDAR'97 (Fourth) Ulm, Germany (1995)
ICDAR'99 (Fifth) Bangalore, India (1999)
ICDAR'01 (Sixth) Seattle, U.S.A. (2001)
ICDAR'03 (Seventh) Edinburgh, U.K. (2003)
ICDAR'05 (Eighth) Seoul, Korea (2005)
ICDAR'07 (Ninth) Curtiba, Brazil (2007)

As shown above, the second conference was held at Tsukuba, Japan, 1993. The general Chair, Prof. K. Yamamoto (ETL, now at Gifu University) and two Executive Chairs, Dr. H. Fujisawa (Hitachi) and Dr. K. Sakai (Toshiba, now at Hamamatsu University) managed the preparation and led the conference to a great succes.
I served as one of Program Chairs, with Prof. T. Pavlidis (formarly with SUNY) and Prof. S. Mori (formarly with Aizu University.)
