Abstract

A method to extract face regions from complex backgrounds is proposed. In this method, the exposed skin parts of human bodies are enhanced using color information. From the enhanced images, facial parts can be extracted effectively by using the SGLD matrices. This method is an extension of the one which the authors proposed for monochrome images. While a few false alarms were extracted occasionally from the monochrome images, this method can diminish false alarms remarkably.
